spiritual awakening and enlightenment in today’s world

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

What is wanted is not the will to believe, but the will to find out, which is the exact opposite.

Firefly

250px-fireflyopeninglogo.jpgI’m watching Firefly. A friend lent me the series on DVD, and I’ve got to say I’m impressed. In my opinion, it’s right up there with Deep Space Nine and the new Battlestar Galactica as some of the best science fiction ever put on the small screen.

I am a HUGE Firefly fan. I’ve seen the series all the way through at least 3 times now. I was extremely pissed when it was canceled. The movie Serenity is much more poignant if you’ve seen the series.

I can imagine! I saw Serenity in the theater, but knew zip about FF at the time.

Now that I’ve just finished Firefly, definitely looking forward to Serenity. But I’m going to make an extended second pass through Firefly first, studying the dubbed Spanish. What a great way to learn a language!

Heh. You’ve got to let me know if the swearing in Chinese is cancelled out by the Spanish dubbing.

What I mean is - Do they leave the original swearing intact? Do they have the dubbing actor swear in chinese with a Spanish accent? Or do they replace the Chinese swear words with Spanish swear words?

Firefly just wouldn’t be the same without Mal cussing in Chinese all the time. :)

It seems what they’re doing is to write some Spanish filler in place of the Chinese. Not swearing, but like a pseudo-translation:

Was she really such a xing ta gao liu?

    Becomes:
Was she really so cold and heartless?

Not surprised they didn’t try to coach whole new sets of actors with the Chinese.

    Update to the last comment:

Actually they usually do have the Chinese intact in the Spanish dubbing…

Now I’m interested in watching a couple of episodes in Spanish.

    Hehe. Look what I found:

I have been a huge SF fan in the past, and am still a pushover for any SF movie that is decent. So… I am now embarrassed that I haven’t even heard of Firefly, and I am gonna take Kay’s advice and watch the series and then watch the movie Serenity.

Firefly is one of my all time favourite series, probably because it was created by Joss Whedon, the greatest fiction writer of all time. :)

Great blog you have here, by the way.
