““you will free me from the man who imprisons me.” That introduces a lot of new thought about the crucifixion– a subject that I have always carefully avoided. Okay! Jesus understood that he was imprisoned in “this earthly tabernacle” and longed to be free to commune with us all.

I don’t know whether I believe that’s what actually happened, but it’s certainly food for thought, and what the writer of Judas had decided happened. Thanks, Jon.

I never realized how broad and therefore meaningless the word "Protestant" has become. Same thing with "existentialist." And definitely the same thing with "Gnostic." Thanks to Jean-Yves Leloup's excellent translations, I'm coming to see that The Gospel of Mary Magdalene is, like The Gospel of Thomas, only "Gnostic" by association. These two Gospels do not share the dualistic worldview we see in The Gospel of Judas and other texts produced by the Sethian Gnostics. Good overview, Jon. Thanks to Jean-Yves Leloup’s excellent translations, I’m coming to see that The Gospel of Mary Magdalene is, like The Gospel of Thomas, only “Gnostic” by association.
